Buy With Confidence and Avoid the Bodgers
Our approved trader scheme called 'Buy With Confidence' has been set up in Luton to help you avoid the pitfalls when making home improvements. This is a national scheme and is being operated by several Trading Standards authorities throughout England. In fact it is the largest local authority assured trader scheme in England. Each of our traders has signed up to the standards of customer service set out in the scheme rules. Once a business becomes a member of the scheme, they are monitored to ensure their continuing commitment to customer care and feedback is invited from their customers. Whilst we cannot guarantee nothing will ever go wrong, if you have a problem with a member of the scheme they must deal with any complaints in a fair and equitable manner. If the complaint cannot be resolved, the Council's Trading Standards Service will try to help you reach a solution.
Approved trader are vetted before they join and agree to:
- Ensure that staff are properly trained for their work
- Respond promptly and correctly to customer complaints
Get Criminal Records Bureau clearance for all staff who
carry out work in or around people's homes
We are always looking for new members to make the choice of traders and home improvement trade sectors as wide as possible. If you know a reliable, trustworthy trader who you think would benefit from joining our scheme, then please let us know.

Businesses participating in Buy With Confidence scheme have been vetted for compliance with trading standards legislation prior to joining the scheme but that does not mean Luton Borough Council guarantees the quality of any goods or services provided by the business nor can Luton Borough Council be held liable for any failures of any goods or services provided by the business in any way. It should not be considered as an assurance that a member business complies with all legal requirements relating to that business.
Luton Borough Council cannot guarantee that the goods or services being
offered by a member business will never give rise to a complaint, however should
this occur, advice and help can be provided by use of the free mediation process
provided by the scheme. The mediation scheme is not legally binding on either
party and does not affect any right to seek redress in a court of law.
